Disability Accommodation

Disability accommodations are available to those who need help with supported independent living. Nextt will help you find the best disability accommodations to fit your needs based on the funds you have available.

Clients who work with Nextt can explore a variety of supported independent living options, including:

National Insurance Disability Scheme (NDIS)

Whether you want to live independently, or with personalized support, NDIS can provide a housing option that's right for you. Ownership to rentals, extended care for people who wish to live independently, and modifications to properties are just a few of the accommodations available.

Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA)

SDA can help you live more independently if you need housing that is specially designed to accommodate your disability. Whether you have an extreme functional impairment or your needs require a high level of support, SDA can modify homes to meet your disability accommodation requirements. You'll need the following to apply for SDA:

1) A Housing Goal: your NDIS plan should include housing goals.

2) Create a Housing Plan (including housing needs): your occupational therapist or support coordinator will usually complete a housing plan, although you may complete it yourself if you wish. You can also ask an Allied Health professional for help.

NDIA, or the National Disability Insurance Agency, will receive and review your SDA request. Once they approve your SDA funding, NDIA will grant you a "Design Standard" or SDA level. Once they place you on one of the four "Design Standard" levels, you will stay at that level for life. You won't need to reapply unless you want the NDIA to reassess your SDA level.

The four "Design Standard" levels are:

1) Improved Liveability: standard physical needs, including wider doors and luminous contrasts.

2) Fully Accessible: greater physical needs, including wheelchair access in bathrooms and the kitchen

3) High Physical Support: higher physical needs, including ceiling hoists and communicative technology.

4) Robust: reinforcement to the structure, including durable walls and retreat areas for staff and visitors.

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Supported independent living, or SIL, can provide in-house care 24/7 for people who want to live in their house independently. The care that SIL offers is usually available to residents of a shared household, so Nextt takes great care to carefully match clients together. We house our clients together with others who share similar likes, interests, goals, and disability accommodation needs. You'll need the following to apply for SIL:

1) A Housing Goal: your disability accommodation plan should include housing goals.

2) Reports and Assessments from the NDA: your requirements that you need to reach your independent living goal.

3) SIL will be included in your plan as Quote Pending.

4) Quote from SIL Provider: Nextt will provide you with a quote for our services once you've applied for a home you wish to live in. NDIA will need to approve the quote for you to access the funding.
